What People Say 2

I came to Scotland from Poland.  I started at a local secondary school but needed some extra help with my English.  I needed to learn English verb tenses better and understanding what my Scottish classmates were saying - I didn’t understand them!  Angela came for 90 minutes each week for a year.  We studied a lot of grammar for my school essays in English.  She also taught me local words and phrases in a local accent!  I got a Standard Grade Credit 2 for my English exam at school .. Nae bad!

I really enjoyed my one-to-one English classes.  They made me feel more confident and relaxed when I speak English.  The course helped me to develop my spoken and written English and I also learned about British culture, traditions and history.  Relaxed discussion brought me both enjoyment and a higher level of English.  The lessons were lively and based on my needs.  Different materials were used, such as audio, Cds, movies and newspapers.  I want to take the chance and say again thank you to my teacher Angela for your patience, support and understanding.

I was studying a college course and needed help to write essays.  Angela helped me to change my grammar and spelling mistakes.  Then she looked at my problems - often I was making the same mistakes because I didn’t understand English grammar.  We studied important grammar and my essays improved.

I started having classes in October last year.  Since then I’ve become more confident in my use of the English language.  Now I understand the grammar better and I use a wider range of words. Classes are helping me in my work and in my contacts with English speakers.

Angela’s a good teacher and my lessons were fun.  I’ve learned a lot over the last year.  When I started learning English I didn’t want to practise writing and spelling but I soon realised that this was a good idea.  I’m now able to complete job application forms, write letters to employers and write a professional looking CV.  I also started doing voluntary work and Angela helped me to practise the English I needed for this.  I’ve completed an elementary level English course and feel much happier now as I now have a lot more confidence.

I couldn’t go to English classes because I have a baby. Angela came to my house at the weekend to teach me English.  She asked me what I wanted to learn.  Every week we did something different.  I changed the day and time if my baby was ill.  I didn’t understand English before.  Now I am better.

I studied ESOL at college and also wanted to do my Cambridge FCE exam.  Near the exam I was panicking.  The FCE was too hard for me!  I had some lessons with Angela.  She looked at my problems.  I knew a lot of grammar but didn’t have enough vocabulary.  We practised more vocabulary and also lots of FCE speaking practice.  She gave me an FCE exam practice book and CD - so I could practise the reading, writing, listening and use of English papers.  I passed!

My partner had English lessons at home for 4 hours each week with Angela for about 8 months.  Angela also organised some voluntary work so that she could meet people and practise her English in real situations.  This was a very good idea.  Thank you Angela.
